$100 million raised for forward-looking research
In 2009/10, thanks to the inspired offer of matched funding from our founding benefactor, Dr James Martin, the School generated $100mn of new research funds. These funds were swiftly mobilised to create 19 new research streams in the School, addressing a phenomenal breadth of cutting-edge research, from modelling the cosmos to safeguarding the world's biodiversity.
Over the next 5 years, the School will reap the benefits of this investment in our research, growing our dynamic community of brilliant scholars and reaching out to new audiences in all sectors of society. Leverhulme grant to study diasporas
The International Migration Institute (a member of the Oxford Martin School) has been awarded £1.74 million by the Leverhulme Trust to conduct research into ‘The Impact of Diasporas’. The study, led by Institute Director Professor Robin Cohen, will integrate researchers from numerous disciplines across Oxford University. Read more...
Partnership with George Soros leads to new institute on economic thinking
Dr James Martin’s US$50 million matched funding challenge has helped to inspire a commitment by global financier, George Soros, to create a new institute for economics as part of the James Martin 21st Century School. Soros and Martin have each made matching pledges of $US5 million dollars to develop a five-year programme of research that will advance economic thinking and modelling, providing insights to address the recent failures in economic theory and practice.
