This workshop is organised by the Oxford Martin Programme on Human Rights for Future Generations

'Human rights budget analysis' focuses on evaluating budgets from a human rights perspective. Budget analysis takes place in the intersection of various disciplines, and it requires - inter alia - focus on the idea of human rights, budgets, political institutions, and the drafting and implementation of policies and statutes. The methodology for human rights budget analysis is an important topic many scholars and practitioners have been working on for nearly two decades. In particular, plenty of work has been done on the use of international legal human rights instruments in the scrutiny of state budgets. As budget analysis has become particularly relevant in light of austerity measures, also the methodological discussions are gaining new momentum.

This workshop brings together experts in law, economics, and philosophy, takes a step back from specific legal human rights instruments, and focuses in more general terms on the methodology of human rights budget analysis.
