Widening debate on climate change solutions
A controversial academic paper co-authored by James Martin Fellow Dr Anders Sandberg inspired wide-ranging media coverage and public debate.
Sandberg contributed to a paper entitled, "Human Engineering and Climate Change". The paper explored the possibility of bio-engineering humans to mitigate and/or adapt to climate change. The modifications discussed included: giving people drugs to make them have an adverse reaction to eating meat; making humans smaller; lowering birth-rates through behaviour modification; and genetically engineering eyesight to work better in the dark to help reduce the need for lighting.
