21st Century Ocean Institute

What are we doing?
We are trying to understand and quantify how the ocean responds to a changing carbon cycle.

Why is it important?
In the coming decades, the ocean carbon cycle will experience major changes which have not occurred for at least the last 3 million years.  These changes will have profound impacts on the chemistry and biology of the ocean, and on our future climate.

How are we different?
We are integrating Oxford leadership in ocean physics and biogeochemistry, and innovative computational modelling of ocean circulation. Our research aims to predict and prepare for large-scale changes in the ocean chemistry and sea levels.
