The Institute for

Science, Innovation and Society

The Challenge

We conduct research, deliver teaching and formulate policy proposals on the implications of scientific and technological change in contemporary societies.

Scientific and technological changes are at the centre of transformations experienced by humanity in the 21st century. It is vital to anticipate, understand and influence these changes now. Cross-cutting interests include issues of emerging technology, infrastructure transition, governance and regulation, and the constitution of publics.

The Institute encompasses world-class capabilities (both scholarly and practical) and combines research, practice and education across multiple domains, from intellectual property rights in the life sciences to climate geoengineering governance.

Our research includes the Future of Cities, Resource Stewardship, Food Governance, Climate Alternatives and BioProperty.
