This article discusses the gap between optimism and pessimism regarding the world as we see it. Statistics show many flaws in areas, whilst other areas progress is increasing significantly. How we perceive these differences is incredibly interesting. The phrase "local optimism and national pessimism" used by Max Roser, Our World in Data, is used to describe how although we do not see a serious problem where we live, we believe there are serious issues around us, nationally.
