Research involves the use of mathematical modelling to infer the mechanisms underlying long-term plant population and community dynamics. Primarily using palaeoecological data including fossil pollen, chironomids (i.e. non-biting midges), charcoal, dung fungal spores and stable isotopes to recreate long-term ecosystem dynamics that demonstrate the effects of slow ecosystem processes (e.g. climate change) on plant populations.
