The overall goal of my research is to elucidate the mechanisms regulating cytosolic Ca2+ signalling, and resolve how the heterogeneous spatiotemporal dynamics observed in this ubiquitous Ca2+ messenger pathway impact physiological and pathological cellular function. Using human dopaminergic neurons derived from induced-pluripotent stem cells as an inexhaustible source, I am currently investigating Ca2+ dynamics during the neuronal maturation, and a mechanistic link between Ca2+ and Parkinson’s Disease pathophysiology.
