Sir David Omand GCB is a visiting professor in the War Studies Department, King's College London.  He was appointed in 2002 the first UK Security and Intelligence Coordinator, having previously been Permanent Secretary of the Home Office 1997-2001and before that Director of GCHQ, the UK’s signals intelligence and cyber-security organisation. Previously, in the Ministry of Defence he served as Deputy Under Secretary of State for Policy.  He is the Senior Independent Director of Babcock International Group plc, and a Non-Executive Director of Finmeccanica UK Ltd,. His book, Securing the State, is published by C. Hurst (Publishers) Ltd.
