Originally from Lithuania I came to the UK for undergraduate studies and stayed here ever since. I have a PhD from the University of Oxford, where I've studied the structure of the Influenza A virus genome. I've always been interested in science communication and was actively involved in various outreach activities during my studies. After my PhD I was funded by the Wellcome Trust to do a masters degree in Science Media Production. During those studies I've produced science-themed radio shows and short documentary films, as well as spent a summer working at the Financial Times data and graphics team. Currently I'm part of Our World in Data team, researching various public health and infectious diseases topics.
