Dr Gwilym Rowlands

Oxford Martin Fellow

Through his research Gwilym harnesses state-of-the-art spatial technology to the needs of marine science and management. He is well versed in remote sensing and mapping technology and has research expertise across a variety of satellite, airbourne, and shipbourne sensors. Gwilym’s work includes field monitoring and survey, image and spatial analysis, as well as mathematical modelling providing relevance across a broad spectrum of marine and coastal applications.

Gwilym gained his doctorate in Marine Biology and Oceanography from Nova Southeastern University, Florida (2013) for work remote sensing the diversity, distribution and resilience of coral reef environments. He also has an MRes in Ecology and Environmental Management from the University of York (2006) and a BSc Biology (Hons) from the University of Nottingham (2003).
