My research at the Oxford Martin School is focused on examining forest responses of the Amazon basin to extreme climatic events. Principally, we are coupling a recently developed forest simulation model with probabilistic climate ensembles to examine how the frequency of extreme events, such as widespread droughts associated with El Niños, could increase tree mortality and threaten the long-term productivity of Amazon forests.
