Gokhan is an environmental engineer and he obtained his PhD degree from the Environmental Science and Engineering Program, Istanbul Technical University, Turkey, where he was also a research and teaching assistant. During his PhD, he investigated the climate change impacts on the surface water resources of Istanbul and built a regional water resource system model.
His main research interests lie in the different research themes of integrated watershed management, including hydrology, water resource system modeling and water quality. Alongside his academic studies, he has collaborated actively with government agencies and private sectors in numerous watershed management projects. Gökhan has also worked on the water resources of the Euphrates - Tigris Basin, which is one of the major transboundary river systems in the Middle East.
Since 2020, Gokhan has been focusing on water-energy nexus modelling in the Lower Jordan River Basin and working on the national water resource system model for England and Wales.
