Louis du Plessis

Postdoctoral Researcher

Louis studied computer science and applied mathematics at the University of the Witwatersrand, before completing an MSc in computational biology and bioinformatics and a PhD in evolutionary biology at the ETH Zürich. Since August 2016 he has been a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Zoology at the University of Oxford.

His research focusses on using phylodynamic methods to infer key epidemiological parameters during emerging/re-emerging infectious disease outbreaks and using such inferences to guide and inform public health policy. This includes exploring the limitations of current methods and developing pragmatic solutions that make use of all available data sources to generate clear clear-cut answers that can be translated to control strategies.
