Dr Reza Khorshidi

Programme Lead, Machine Learning and Biomedical Informatics

Dr Khorshidi leads the Machine Learning and Biomedical Informatics program at the Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health, The University of Oxford and is the Head of Quantitative Analytics, EMEA and Special Projects Lab with AIG.

He also holds an adjunct fellowship with The University of Oxford's Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain (FMRIB), and is a principal scientist with the Human Connectome Project (an ambitious attempt to pinpoint the brain’s information-processing principals/networks).

Dr Khorshidi’s interests include biomedical informatics (e.g., neuroinformatics and medical imaging), healthcare (e.g., technology-enabled delivery of care, and decision-support systems), machine learning (e.g., deep learning, Bayesian statistics, and network inference), and big data technologies/software (Hadoop, Spark and high-performance computing platforms).

After receiving his DPhil in computational neuroscience and machine learning from The University of Oxford in 2010, Dr Khorshidi joined Opera Solutions as an analytics lead. He successfully advised Opera’s clients in healthcare, government, telecommunication and retail with innovative, powerful, and scientific solutions that had big-data at their core. He then joined AIG in 2012, to lead their big-data initiative in EMEA region; there, he built and led teams of elites on multiple concurrent projects to deliver disruptive software solutions that had machine learning at their core. Particularly, his team in the Special Projects Lab, is combining machine learning techniques (such as deep learning), with expertise from domains such as computer vision, natural language processing, and signal/speech processing, to disrupt the current practice in insurance.
