This summit is organised by The George Institute for Global Health, an Oxford Martin School Institute and the Entrepreneurship Centre at the University of Oxford.

This two-day meeting will involve a selected group of high profile politicians, academics, entrepreneurs, investors and journalists in an interactive programme of discussion and debate, focused on how we best provide sustainable healthcare for the 21st Century.

The Concept: Why Big Change?

The healthcare challenge facing humanity is unprecedented. The world's population is growing and people are living longer. As a result, the burden of non-communicable diseases, injury and associated illness is greater than ever before.

Increasingly, emerging markets are having to tackle the 'double burden' of disease as they continue the fight against the traditional diseases associated with poverty. However, the challenge is evident the world over as healthcare providers strain to deliver expected services under increasing financial pressure.

A solution to this challenge is needed, and it is needed now.

Big Change: sustainable healthcare for the 21st Century will focus on the need to identify working solutions that are both innovative and affordable. In order to tackle the challenges, healthcare professionals cannot act in isolation. The solution will require engagement by big business, government, academia, global organisations, investors, innovators and the media.

This meeting will bring together key players from each of these areas to discuss the challenge, to identify innovations that are working now, and to determine how these innovations can implemented across the globe.
