Summary: Governments and armies around the world are investing heavily in highly sophisticated robotics weapons systems. Some systems, such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles ('drones') and bomb disposal robots, are already operational; many more will be in the not too distant future. Do these systems pose distinctive legal and ethical challenges? Should they be designed to replace human service personnel, or is the idea of a 'killer robot' morally and legally abhorrent? In this seminar, we discuss these and similar questions.

Chair: Dr Bennett Foddy, Deputy Director, Institute for Science and Ethics
