There is an idea about reducing global poverty that is simple, clear, persuasive and, at times less than helpful. The intuitive but less than helpful notion can be that poverty reduction is about finding and implementing effective programs for the poor. The reality is often that broad based increases in economic productivity that create prosperity are the best route to the elimination of poverty. Dr Pritchett will argue that good economics drives development better than anything else.
