RADICAL STATISTICS Annual Conference and AGM, 2009
We announce the 2009 annual Radical Statistics conference to be held at the Oxford Institute of Ageing, University of Oxford. The conference will focus on a multi-disciplinary view of population ageing, one of the most challenging issues facing our societies in the 21st century. We welcome submission of papers on the use and potential misuse of statistics to direct policies and attitudes towards ageing from a range of disciplines including gerontology, demography, sociology, anthropology, statistics, economics, political sciences, law and public health.
This conference will include:
• the characteristics of the ageing population
• needs and services for older people – including vulnerable groups such as ethnic minorities, those with a learning disability and those with mental health problems
• work, family, health and education
• housing and accommodation
• pensions now and in the future – income distribution
• in- and out-migration as another major demographic challenge
• other issues relevant to an ageing population
