This lecture is organised by Oxford Martin Programme on Human Rights for Future Generations

Speaker: Professor Jill Marshall, University of Leicester
Location: Oxford Law Faculty, St Cross Building

Jill Marshall’s Human Rights Law and Personal Identity, published by Routledge in June 2014, explores the role human rights law plays in the formation, and protection, of our personal identities. Drawing from a range of disciplines, Marshall critically examines how, in a so called age of liberation and individuality, human rights law includes and excludes specific types of identity in ways that can potentially restrict our freedom rather than empower it. In the seminar, Jill Marshall will explore some of the themes by reference to particular examples. This seminar is being co-hosted with the Oxford Human Rights Hub.
