This event is part of the University of Oxford Alumni Weekend 2011.
Speaker: Professor Angela McLean, Co-Director, Institute for Emerging Diseases, (member of Oxford Martin School); Professor of Mathematical Biology, University of Oxford.
Summary: Emerging infectious diseases are often in the news. Is that just because they make great copy, or are there really more of them? Using examples from the last few years and decades, this lecture will explore how emerging infections invade human populations, how new pathogens adapt to become efficient infections of humans and how we can learn from experience when we
try to predict what might happen next.
