Summary: What are the viable alternatives to fossil fuels and when might we realistically expect them to take over and provide the majority of the world’s growing energy needs? Why is the trillionth tonne of carbon significant? How has confidence in the safety of nuclear energy been dented in the light of the recent earthquake disaster in Japan and what are the implications for long term investment in the nuclear industry? Or do we want to move towards low energy lifestyles and choose ‘healthy’ energy? Some of Oxford’s leading experts will discuss the issue of energy in the future, one of the greatest challenges facing the world as we move through the 21st century.
