We are pleased to announce a funding award for the International Migration Institute to conduct a new project entitled, Theorizing the Evolution of European Migration Systems (THEMIS). The funding comes from the NORFACE Research Programme on Migration in Europe - Social, Economic, Cultural and Policy Dynamics, which is a partnership between fourteen research councils to increase co-operation in research and research policy in Europe.

The IMI will collaborate with 3 European partner institutions (Erasmus University Rotterdam, University of Lisbon and the International Peace Institute in Norway) to bring together a multidisciplinary team for this four-year project. This collaboration provides an excellent opportunity for the IMI to expand its investigations into migration dynamics and migrants' agency in their continuous interplay with structural conditions in origin and destination contexts. It aims to achieve an improved understanding of the heterogeneity of the evolution of migration systems across migrant groups, localities and time.

The award provides not only recognition of IMI’s growing international reputation for ground-breaking research in the field but also new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and international impact.
