Sarah Whatmore is Professor of Environment and Public Policy and a Professorial Fellow of Keble College. She read Geography as an undergraduate and completed her masters and doctoral studies at University College London. She holds a higher doctorate from the University of Bristol, awarded for published research. She is a Fellow of the British Academy, the Academy of Social Sciences and the Royal Geographical Society, and is an appointed member of the Science Advisory Council to the UK Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and Chair of its Social Science Expert Group. Her research is broadly concerned with cultures of nature and the relationship between different forms of environmental knowledge and attachment, with a particular interest in the role of evidence and expertise in environmental governance today.
As Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), Professor Whatmore is responsible for the University’s strategy and policies for teaching, learning, student support and admissions.
