Dr Apostolos Tsiachristas
Associate Professor in Health Economics
Dr Apostolos Tsiachristas is an Associate Professor in Health Economics at the University of Oxford, jointly appointed in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences and the Department of Psychiatry.
He leads the Oxford Mental Health Economics and Policy (OMHEP) group, directing a multidisciplinary research programme that informs the design and evaluation of innovative health and care models, particularly in mental health, multimorbidity, and integrated care.
A recognised leader in applied health economics, Dr Tsiachristas has advised high-level policymaking bodies, including as Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the UK Office for Health Improvement and Disparities and as Scientific Consultant to the World Health Organization on health financing. His work bridges academic research and real-world policy, shaping national and international strategies on value-based care and health system transformation.
He has secured over £5 million in competitive research funding from bodies such as NIHR, the Wellcome Trust, and the EU, and plays an active role in scientific governance, including editorial positions on leading journals and advisory panels such as the Bone Cancer Research Trust. Dr. Tsiachristas holds a PhD in Health Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam and brings prior experience in public-sector consulting in the Netherlands.
