Dr Norman van Rhijn
Senior Research Fellow
Dr Norman van Rhijn is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Biology at the University of Oxford, where he leads research into the evolution of fungal pathogens and antifungal resistance.
His research examines how changing environments can drive the emergence of new traits in fungi, including pathogenicity and resistance to antifungal treatments. Working within a One Health framework, he explores the connections between environmental adaptation and human health, with a particular focus on how climate change may affect the evolution and spread of fungal pathogens.
Norman’s current research includes work on Aspergillus species, the emerging pathogen Candidozyma auris (formerly Candida auris) and Trichophyton species. He also investigates how exposure to fungicides can contribute to resistance to clinically important antifungal drugs, as well as approaches to discovering new compounds with broad antifungal activity.
