Dr Younjung Kim is a postdoctoral researcher in infectious disease epidemiology at the Department of Statistics and the Pandemic Sciences Institute, University of Oxford, working with Professor Christl Donnelly and Professor Moritz Kraemer.

Younjung is a veterinarian who trained as an epidemiologist during his postgraduate studies in the UK and Hong Kong. His research focuses on modelling the transmission dynamics of animal and zoonotic pathogens. Younjung has conducted research across an extensive range of epidemiological contexts, with recent publications covering the drivers of SARS-CoV-2 testing behaviour, human hantavirus burden in Argentina, global surveillance performance in highly pathogenic avian influenza and African swine fever outbreaks, and tick-borne pathogen transmission dynamics.

Within the Oxford Martin School’s Digital Pandemic Preparedness programme, he studies how digital exposure-history data can be better used for epidemiological inference while preserving privacy in future pandemics.
