Jake Stein

Jake Stein is a doctoral student in the Human Centered Artificial Intelligence group researching social and technical aspects of data governance under a studentship from the Oxford Martin Programme on Ethical Web and Data Architectures.

Jake comes to the EWADA project after completing his Masters in the Social Sciences of the Internet at the Oxford Internet Institute and working in the big data analytics industry as a product manager. Jake’s research investigates how institutional power is mediated through technical infrastructures from user interfaces to web protocols and data structures. He designs alternative architectures and policy to empower data subjects with the collective knowledge contained in their data.
