Professor Maria Emilia Cosenza Andraus, MD, PhD, is an Adjunct Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where she also works at the Clementino Fraga Filho University Hospital’s Epilepsy Program, in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil.

Maria is a consultant neurologist and a clinical neurophysiologist, certified by the Brazilian Academy of Neurology and the Brazilian Society of Clinical Neurophysiology. She is the Coordinator of the Scientific Department of Clinical Neurophysiology / Brazilian Academy of Neurology / Regional RJ and the Head of the Electroencephalography Section of Santa Casa da Misericordia do Rio de Janeiro General Hospital, where she acts too as an Invited Professor of Neurology of the Pontifical Catholic University – PUC / Rio.

She has special interest in aspects related to Epilepsy, Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Video-EEG prolonged monitoring, which are her main areas of research. She acts as a peer reviewer of Journals such as Seizure - European Journal of Epilepsy, Epilepsy Research, Clinical EEG & Neuroscience, among others. Her most cited publication is 'Periodic EEG Patterns: Importance of their Recognition and Clinical Significance'.
