Pediatric Neurologist

Professor Charles Newton is a pediatric neurologist with over 30 years of experience in conducting studies on the epilepsy and neurological disorders in sub-Saharan Africa.

Charles Newton is a professor in psychiatry at the University of Oxford, with a special interest in global neurodevelopmental disorders, in particular autism. He is conducting research on the epidemiology and psychiatric co-morbidity of epilepsy in sub-Saharan Africa, examining interventions to reduce the treatment gap and stigma associated with these disorders.

He also examines the neurocognitive consequences of sickle cell disease in Africa. This research has led to an interest to the mental health of children from immigrant populations in the UK and Europe.
