Professor David Eyre
Professor of Infectious Diseases
Professor David Eyre is Professor of Infectious Diseases in the Nuffield Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford, a Robertson Fellow and an infectious diseases clinician.
His research focuses on understanding who develops infections and why, and how infections can be better prevented, diagnosed, treated and monitored. He uses approaches spanning epidemiology, statistics, causal inference and machine learning, drawing on large-scale healthcare data to study infectious diseases and improve patient care.
David’s research also explores the use of whole-genome sequencing to understand the transmission and epidemiology of bacterial, viral and fungal infections. He is interested in developing sequencing technologies for faster microbiological diagnosis and in using artificial intelligence to support clinical decision-making and improve the delivery of healthcare.
His work brings together clinical medicine, pathogen genomics and data science, with a particular focus on translating new analytical and diagnostic approaches into healthcare practice.
