Professor Leah Gerber

Visiting Fellow

Leah R. Gerber is a Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Martin Programme on Biodiversity and Society and a Professor of Conservation Science at Arizona State University, where she founded and directs the Center for Biodiversity Outcomes (CBO).

Leah Gerber is a world leader in conservation science, known for pioneering research and transformative strategies that bridge science, policy, and action to protect biodiversity on a global scale. Her current research focuses on connecting science with action to advance scalable, equitable solutions for biodiversity conservation. She is developing collaborations between CBO and Oxford researchers to scale impact through shared educational initiatives and cross-institutional partnerships. 
 

At Oxford, Leah collaborates with scholars across the University - engaging with the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery, the Agile Initiative, the Cascade Initiative, and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Conservation Science - to advance research on knowledge co-production, democratizing data for conservation decision-making, and embedding biodiversity goals into corporate and policy frameworks.

She holds a PhD in Wildlife Ecology from the University of Washington and has published extensively on marine conservation, decision science, and biodiversity policy. Her work is motivated by a commitment to bridging knowledge and action for the future of life on Earth.
