Maarten Herbosch is a Postdoctoral Researcher on Frontier AI Risk Management at the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative. He is also an Assistant Professor of AI and Law at KU Leuven and a member of the Scientific Panel of Independent Experts established under the EU AI Act.

His work focuses on the legal and policy tools that can help manage the risks associated with increasingly capable AI systems. His earlier research examined the interaction between AI-specific regulation and the traditional legal framework, as well as the broader normative desirability of such regulation.

Before joining the Oxford Martin AI Governance Initiative, he was a Senior Research Scholar at the Institute for Law & AI, where he co-edited the Cambridge Commentary on EU General-Purpose AI Law.
