Following on from the release of the Independent review to ensure energy is affordable for households and businesses, led by Professor Dieter Helm CBE, we are delighted that Dieter is coming to give a talk on the review.
Professor Dieter Helm, one of Britain’s leading energy experts, will talk about how we can meet the targets in the UK Climate Change Act and ensure security of supply at least cost. He will talk about looking for opportunities to reduce costs in each element of the electricity supply chain and consider the implications of the changing demand for electricity, including the role of innovative technologies such as electric vehicles, storage, robotics and artificial intelligence.

About the speaker
Professor Dieter Helm is an economist specialising in utilities, infrastructure, regulation and the environment, and concentrating on the energy, water, communications and transport sectors primarily in Britain and Europe. He is a Professor at the University of Oxford and Fellow of New College, Oxford. In December 2015, Dieter was reappointed as Independent Chair of the Natural Capital Committee.
Dieter's recent books include: Burn Out: The Endgame for Fossil Fuels, The Carbon crunch: Revised and Updated and Natural Capital: Valuing the Planet. These books were published by Yale University Press. Nature in the Balance, edited with Cameron Hepburn, was published in early 2014 by Oxford University Press.
During 2011, Dieter assisted the European Commission in preparing the Energy Roadmap 2050, serving both as a special advisor to the European Commissioner for Energy and as Chairman of the Ad Hoc Advisory Group on the Roadmap. He also assisted the Polish government in their presidency of the European Union Council.
Dieter is an Associate Editor of the Oxford Review of Economic Policy. He is a Director of Aurora Energy Research, a leading energy modelling company. Dieter is an Honorary Vice President of the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust.
