Speaker: Professor David Leblang, J. Wilson Newman Professor of Governance and Chair, Department of Politics, University of Virginia
Summary: This special seminar will address the drivers of international migration. The tremendous variance of bilateral international migrant flows across destination countries and over time is often explained by economic determinants or social conditions.Professor Leblang will discuss the role political environments across destinations plays in influencing bilateral migration flows based on his recent research.
Biography: David Leblang is the J. Wilson Newman Professor of Governance and Chair of the Department of Politics at the University of Virginia. His research focuses on broad questions of political economy and he is presently working on a number of projects related to the politics of international migration, the political consequences of the global financial crisis and the causes and consequences of global commodity price volatility.
