Summary: This presentation analyses the impacts of the global financial crisis on international migration worldwide. These seem likely to include diverting attention from migration policy-making at national, regional and global levels; a reduction in migrant remittances; increasing pressure on migration in poor countries; growing resentment towards migrant workers; and an increase in highly-skilled migration globally and labour mobility in the European Union. Policy options will be considered, drawing on the experiences of the Asian (1997) and Russian (1998) financial crises.
