This special seminar is hosted by the International Migration Institute, IMI, an Oxford Martin School Institute

Speaker: Ruth Padel, British poet and writer

Summary: This event at IMI is somewhat different from the themes of other IMI events, Ruth Padel’s book incorporates poems and prose , but the overriding theme is that of migration – from early hominids out of Africa to modern day diasporas - and the sense that (in her words) we’re all ‘from somewhere else’.

Biography: Ruth Padel is a British poet and writer. She is the author of a wide range of non-fiction, including a novel, eight poetry collections, and most recently Darwin - A Life in Poems and The Mara Crossing, poems and prose on migration. She began as a Greek scholar at Oxford, has written books on consciousness and self in ancient Greece, on reading contemporary poetry, and on tiger conservation. She is Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and a Council Member of the Zoological Society of London.
