Pete’s research interests lie in nutrition and the relationship between public health and environmental sustainability.

He studies the health impact of changes in population-level consumption of foods, which may be a result of health-related taxes and subsidies or changes in consumption and production patterns to improve the environmental sustainability of the food system. This work uses the DIETRON model, which analyses the role of diet in health. This model is being expanded to include physical activity, smoking and alcohol consumption.

He is also interested in the effectiveness of front-of-pack food labelling in influencing food purchase decisions, and the regulation of marketing of foods utilising nutrient profile models.
