On Wednesday 27 May, Dr Ian Goldin, Director of the 21st Century School, gave the keynote speech at the 2009 Water Enterprise Forum. The forum, hosted jointly by the School of Geography and the Environment, the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society, and the Said Business School at the University of Oxford, was a student-led initiative aimed at fostering collaboration between business, civil society, government and academia on issues surrounding water management.
Topics ranged from a discussion of business opportunities, to how best to encourage innovation in the sector. Sustainability, the role of social enterprise and potential constraints on innovation were all discussed. The cross-disciplinary forum was the first of its kind at the University of Oxford, providing a unique opportunity for students, academics and practitioners to engage in a constructive dialogue on the role of business in the water industry.
