A report on drones compiled with the help of Oxford Martin School experts will be presented to the UN General Assembly today (October 25).
The Oxford Martin Programme on Human Rights for Future Generations (HRFG) and the Oxford Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict assisted Professor Christof Heyns with the preparation of the report, 'Armed Drones and the Right to Life', by providing a background paper and hosting an expert meeting.
Following the General Assembly meeting, Dapo Akande, co-director of HRFG, will be speaking at a side event, 'Drone Strikes and the Law', chaired by the UN Assistant Secretary General on Human Rights, Ivan Šimonovi.
Also presenting a report to the General Assembly today on drones today is Ben Emmerson, from his perspective as Special Rapporteur on human rights and counter-terrorism. Mr Emmerson will be in Oxford on November 12 to give a talk on drone strikes, an event organised by HRFG and the Oxford Human Rights Hub.
