2020 Birthday Honours

Originally due to be announced in June, the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours List was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When it was announced on Saturday, two Oxford Martin School researchers were included in the Honours.

Professor of Ecosystem Science at the School of Geography and the Environment, Professor Yadvinder Malhi is appointed CBE for services to Ecosystem Science. He is Lead Researcher on the Oxford Martin TNC Climate Partnership, Programme Leader of the Ecosystems Group at the Environmental Change Institute and Director of the Oxford Centre for Tropical Forests.

Professor Charlotte Williams, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, is appointed OBE for services to Chemistry. She investigates how to use renewable resources to make polymers, with a particular emphasis on polyesters and polycarbonates and is Lead Researcher on the Oxford Martin Programme on the Future of Plastics.

Professor Sir Charles Godfray, Director of the Oxford Martin School, extended his best wishes to both honours recipients saying, “Very many congratulations to Yadvinder and Charlotte for their richly-deserved recognition.”
